Collective Worship
At Alder Grove, Collective Worship is at the heart of our daily life. As a Church of England school, we aim to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where every child can explore faith, reflect on values and develop a sense of spirituality.
Our worship is:
-
Inclusive – All children and staff are invited to take part, regardless of faith or belief.
-
Inspirational – We use stories, music, prayer, and reflection to encourage pupils to think deeply about Christian values and how they can live them out.
-
Interactive – Children are actively involved through leading prayers, sharing thoughts, and participating in drama, singing, and discussion.
What Happens in Collective Worship?
-
We gather together each day either as a whole school community, Key Stage or in classes.
-
Worship includes Bible stories, themes linked to our Christian Values (Kindness, Service, Forgiveness, Perseverance, Truthfulness and Courage), and opportunities for prayer and reflection.
-
Our worship is planned around the Church calendar, celebrating key festivals such as Christmas and Easter.
-
Pupils help lead worship, developing confidence and leadership skills
Why Is It Important?
Collective Worship helps us:
-
Build a strong sense of community.
-
Reflect on moral and spiritual questions.
-
Encourage respect and understanding of different beliefs.
-
Live out our vision: “They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season." Psalm 1:3.
Links with Our Church
We work closely with our local parish church and clergy as well as other local churches, who regularly lead worship in school and welcome us for special services throughout the year.
Requests to withdraw children from Collective Worship
Requests for withdrawal will be granted without delay. ‘Religious grounds’ do not have to be justified and explained by the parents. Should children be withdrawn, the school will provide adequate supervision to ensure their safety. Parents/carers who wish to withdraw their child/children from Collective Worship should contact the school office in writing.
